S3D NOW! by Max Hemmo

In summer 2011 an international crew realized a stereoscopic research project in Berlin. During 3 Weeks of production we shot 4 stereoscopic movies. Our experiences are now presented in one book coming with a 3D Blu-ray containing all the movies.

Stereoscopy is not only changing the way we see movies today – even the film productionn goes through the revolutionary process. Producing a technically sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing s3D Film demands not only to understand the problems and difficulties that may arise in the context of such a project, but also to know how to resolve the challenges. The German Film and Television University „Konrad Wolf“ has collaborated with Camelot Broadcast Services GmbH, an interdisciplinary research film project. Together with professionals from the industry, the graduates and students of this project developed strategies to answer technical and aesthetic questions of stereoscopy and s3D film production. The scientific foundation of this project is the production and analytical review of three stereoscopic films, which are documented in this book. All films are included in the 3D Blu-ray. This book examines and delivers essential knowledge about production, professional understanding of the human eye, camera work, thoughts about the sound concept and the integration of new role models on the set, up to the possibilities of post-production. The new aesthetic aspects, camera set ups and postproduction choices can enrich the cinematic expression, but also bring unexpected complications.

The book is dedicated to Alain Derobe and includes the short manual written by Alain and Transvideo for the 3DView family, widely used on Pina from Wim Wenders.
